What’s white, furry, and lives in a box? Why, the Arctic Fox! I never said what kind of box, though did I? I meant an icebox, of course. This furry little guy lives waaaay up north, where it’s cold all year long – though if global warming has its way, Santa’s frosty habitat will be balmy beachfront property at some point. And this little guy will have to either grow some gills or change colors, ’cause all that white fur will make him stand out like a sore thumb! Under normal conditions, the tiny Arctic Fox’s pristine white coat helps it to blend in with the vast ice and snowfields of the Arctic tundra. And I did mention he’s tiny, right? This fuzzy fellow only averages about 8 lbs (though can grow as heavy as 21), while females only average 6.5 lbs, with a max that’s only slightly less than the male’s average.
Now that you know a little about these awesome animals of the Arctic, here is a fun quiz.
Our animal quizzes have 3 questions and I bet after reading the story, you already know the answer it 1 question.
The questions are…
1. Does an Arctic Fox stay white all year?
2. Why does the Arctic Fox have a big tale?
3. An Arctic Fox is a…?
How did you do on the questions?
Are Arctic Foxes one of your favorite animals?
The Arctic Fox may look cute and snuggly, but I really do not think most people would be able to properly take care of a real live one. I think most of us would be much better sticking with a plush one. I bet my neighbors would also be happier if I just left the real ones out in the wild.
