basset-33Elvis might have once opined, “You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog,” and if he’d been singing to this floppy-eared gent, the response would have been a resounding, “Duh!”

Basset Hounds are scent hounds – so-called for the means by which they hunt. They were originally bred to track rabbits and hare. Now we don’t advocate hunting for hunting’s sake, so if we had a Basset, we’d just hug him and love him (and call him George). The Basset is large, long and low to the ground, with a face that looks like Mother Nature took her inspiration from that time your kid brother stuck a plastic toy in the microwave. That droopy, sad-faced look is pretty iconic, isn’t it? But it’s also one of the most enduring reasons for the massive love this dog enjoys worldwide. I’m not one to disagree. They make exceptional family dogs, and are outstanding at patiently enduring the all-too-grabby tendencies of tiny humans.

Now that you know a little about the adorable and useful Basset Hound, we have a fun quiz that asks 3 questions…
