Vivacious and playful or serious and sedate, pugs take their cues from the moods of their owners. They make so-so guard dogs, but their loyalty and love should never be questioned.
Russ Berrie brings these adorable and cuddly pooches to life with their Yomiko Collection. And for the indecisive among you, they come in different sizes, too. The large plush pug is 16 inches long, while the short is 11 inches. Either one is perfect for snuggles galore.
The pug is stubborn but not aggressive, and is quick to form lasting attachments with his or her humans. For those willing to properly care for their pug’s rampant health issues (did you think that cute squished face, which was bred into them, was just for show?), you will have found a friend for life. But pugs aren’t just a one color dog. The fawn or light brown pug is the most common, though there are black, silver or apricot too. Originally bred in China, the first pugs were a bit larger, and longer of body than modern versions. The short, squat muscular body gives the pug loads of strength and energy, despite its tiny size. Basically, it’s a quadrupedal brick that will lick you to death if you let it.
Pugs are no stranger to fame and fortune. Featured in roles of screen and stage like Men in Black II (Frank the Pug, who was in fact an alien in disguise), The Adventures of Milo and Otis, Disney’s Pocahontas, Hotel for Dogs and Dune. Some TV shows that have sported this knee-high notable are The West Wing, Spin City and King of Queens. In short, this is one superstar pooch who is happy to know you, and won’t you take him home and treat him with the love, respect and attention he deserves for the rest of his life?
