Woof! Woof! Mush! Wait, ‘mush’? Dogs don’t say mush! No, but some humans do. And we’re not talking about what you call your grandma’s oatmeal. We’re talking about what sled dog drivers say to their team. Mush! It sets the dogs in motion and keeps up their mighty efforts on your behalf. Want to win the race? You need a good team who is strong, healthy, hearty, happy and well-fed. And that’s where the husky comes in. Originally bred by Eskimos, Huskies are just one of the breeds associated with sledding. There’s also the Alaskan Malamute and the Canadian Eskimo Dog. It’d be silly to qualify all ‘sled dogs’ as a certain breed. That’d be like saying Dane Cook and Richard Pryor are on the same level (they aren’t – Pryor rocks)) simply because they’re both comedians. There are actually two breeds of Husky, too. There’s the Siberian Husky and the Alaskan Husky. With his dense, thick coat, powerful body and large, wide paws, the Husky is perfect for his career. And even these powerful athletes of the dog world are adorable beyond all reason as puppies.
Case in point, Fiesta’s own plush dog here. At 11 ½ inches long, our little friend here from Fiesta is probably more akin to the classic look of the Husky, the Siberian. Part of their Good Dogs collection, Fiesta’s husky may not grow up to pull sleds for you, but he’ll definitely keep you company on those cold nights. Woof!
