Do you remember that one scene in Lady and the Tramp where Lady and the Tramp were eating spaghetti behind the shop? Yes, yes. It was one of the most romantic moments in animated, non-human history. But that isn’t our point. Remember what breed Lady was? With those long, fluffy, luxurious ears, her silky coat? Why, a Cocker Spaniel of course. Well, to be more precise, an English Cocker Spaniel. Why the difference?
Well, American Cockers are smaller than their British counterparts. “What gives? Why you gotta pick on the little guy?” Oh shush. One of the original purposes of this particular spaniel was to hunt the elusive Woodcock. Kindly pull your minds out of the gutter. It’s a wading waterbird. The English version is slightly larger than the American version, meaning the English dog had to be bigger. Makes sense, right? The much smaller American Woodcock hangs out on the shore, where his excellent brown and grey plumage keeps him hidden. But the Spaniel is a scenthound, meaning he tracks by the smell of his prey, rather than sight. Take that Woody!
The Cocker Spaniel is a warm and loving dog, who does well in family surroundings. Russ Berrie Yomiko captures the spirit of this lively in not one but a choice of two snuggly plush Cocker Spaniels. Both are lying down (those adorable bums), and one is ten inches long, while the other is eighteen. If dogs are your thing, and Cocker Spaniels are too, you can’t do much better than to bring these lovely ladies home today.
