Ready for fun, ready for adventure, and ready to ride. Camels are so tall that they have to lie down like this plushie toy from Fiesta for their riders to get on.
Camels are a highly prized source of meat, milk and as work animals. They’ve enjoyed this status among the peoples of Western Asia and Saharan Africa for centuries. In fact, most of the few million camels left in the world are domesticated, taking the places of the horses and mules that are used elsewhere.
Fiesta’s cuddly plushie is a bactrian camel. You can tell these camels apart from dromedaries because unlike dromedaries, they have two humps. And despite what you may have been taught, those humps don’t hold water. They do hold fat reserves though. Unlike most animals where fat gets stored all over the body, fat reserves in a camel’s body are stored in one place, the better to help keep the camel cool in the blazing desert sun. When they have to, they can draw on those fat reserves to stave off dehydration and hunger.
Fiesta’s 11-inch long bactrian camel may not have to wander through the trackless waste of the desert to find you, but she’ll be so grateful that she did that she’ll stick by you no matter what. Camels may be ornery, but they’re loyal and brave too. And while they don’t love a good snuggle (more likely they’ll spit all over you. Yuck!) But this one sure loves them! In fact, she can’t get enough.
