The blazing sands of the Sahara stretch out as far as the eye can see. From north to south, east to west, the Sahara, at 3,630,000 square miles is the second largest desert in the world, after Antarctica (just because there is ice, doesn’t mean that counts as precipitation. It actually doesn’t get much snow there, hence why it is called a desert). Other than scorpions and snakes, there are in fact animals which exist in this arid wasteland.
Take the Desert Fox, for example. He is otherwise known as the Fennec Fox (fennec is the Arabic word for fox ). Like the Arctic Fox, who is adapted to living in the frigid north with his dense coat, the Fennec Fox sports large, radar dish-like ears. Kids knew never to make fun of him in school, because adaptation means life or death in a place like that. Their large size helps him to regulate his body heat and keep him cool, which is important in a place like the Sahara. Everybody needs friends, and the Fennec is no exception. To shelter from the heat and crazy sandstorms, the Fennec will dig large dens (sometimes over a thousand square feet, and even join the dens of other family. Now how’s that for solidarity?
Hansa’s expertly and lovingly crafted desert fox is as adorable as the real thing, and twice as cuddly. At 16 inches in length, he packs an awful lot of charm and adorableness into a tiny package.
