If you were a squirrel, where would you live? You actually have a couple choices. Would you live in a tree? Arboreal (or tree) squirrels can leap from tree to tree with the greatest of ease, using their long bushy tails as a rudder and a brake when they come in for a landing. Though they aren’t the same as flying squirrels, who can’t actually fly, but glide. Regular squirrels have to endure gravity’s touch without the aid of mutant powers, or however one explains Mother Nature’s reasons for gifting one species with ‘wings’ and the rest without. Wonder if it ever causes regular squirrels to get jealous? “You darn flying jerks! Making us feel inferior with your aerial antics!” And the flyers are either, “Nyeah, nyeah, we can fly and you can’t. Watch this!” Zooom! Of course, you probably have more levelheaded squirrels on both sides of the issue going, “Wait a minute. We’re all squirrels. It doesn’t matter if he’s gray, she’s red, he can fly, she can’t, we’re all here for the same reasons.” Sounds nice doesn’t it? We think certain humans in authority could take a lesson. Are you reading this GOP? Squirrels just pwned your silly butts.
Oh yeah, and tree squirrels live in nests called dreys. Ground squirrels live in burrows at ground level. And something both kinds share is that, especially as urban sprawl increases, squirrels, like those flying rats with wings, pigeons, become more and more used to humans. For unapologetic animal lovers, this can be a good thing. For a home owner who is tired of having their garden/bird feeder vandalized, or their home nested in, not so much. Either way, Fiesta’s plush squirrel cares not for the worries of you silly humans. He just wants someone to cuddle! At 9 inches tall, he’s obviously smaller than the real thing, but he’s packed full of personality. From those bright, lively eyes, to the nut clutched carefully in his paws, he oozes charm.
