Folkmanis brings fun to life with their delightful plushie puppet pals. Take for example, this near-life size hedgehog? Confused by the name? Confused by how much it looks like a porcupine? Well, they were named that in centuries past because: 1 – Their snout looks a bit like a pig’s and 2 – In the wild, especially in Europe, they are found often in hedgerows. Seems simple enough, yes? And like porcupines, they ‘have’ quills, as you can see, but they aren’t as dangerous to humans as porcupines (whose wills are barbed and will get stuck in you if you aren’t careful. Ouch! ‘Hedgie’ quills on the other hand, only cause mild discomfort when touched, and the hedgehog doesn’t lose them nearly as often as a porcupine will. That said, hedgies are also smaller than your average porcupine. At their full size, most will fit snuggly in the palm of your hand. Why, kind of like Folkmanis’ puppet here.
As a finger puppet, you can bring nature to life as you tell your own stories. Real hedgehogs make fun, simple and adorable pets (if you’re into that sort of thing), and the appeal is certainly obvious. Just look at this little plush guy. He begs to be held, cuddled and played with. Best of all, pet hedgies get along well with gentle humans, and even some animals. When scared or threatened, hedgies will often try to run away. In fact, the stereotypical image of them curling into a ball, with all their quills pointing out is their last resort. Better to get ‘away’ from the enemy, and make yourself scarce, rather than try and hope that they’ll just go away, right? But that’s a non-issue with Folkmanis’ little friend here. Cuteness abounds, and we bet you’ll have all sorts of fun with him.
