Pop quiz, hot shot: Mighty, Fievel, Mrs. Brisby (or Frisby if you read the book), Basil of Baker Street, Roquefort, Mickey and Minnie – what do all of these characters have in common?
They’re animated? Well, yes, they are.
They’re from some of the best animated movies of the last fifty years? Right again. But most importantly, they’re all mice.
Mighty Mouse debuted in 1942 as a rodent version of everyone’s favorite Son of Krypton, Fievel appeared in Don Bluth’s An American Tail and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (Yes in this case it’s tail not tale). Mrs. Frisby appeared in the 1973 book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and her name was changed to Brisby for the 1982 movie because of concerns from the company that makes that one toy whose name sounds the same. Basil of Baker Street was the titular character in The Great Mouse Detective, Roquefort was the friend of Duchess and her kittens from The Aristocats and Mickey and Minnie….well, do we really have to explain those two? But now for the real star of the show…
Folkmanis’ mini hand puppet may not have the heavy hitting star power of those other mice, but what Mini lacks in clout, she makes up in cute. Just look at those little ears, that twitchy little nose, those little grasping paws! And best of all, as you might expect coming from Folkmanis, she doubles as a finger puppet, so you can bring her to life to tell all manner of fantastic stories about her numerous adventures.
