When you think ‘paint horse’, do you think of a horse practicing his best Monet impression? Or a horse at a computer, trying to pound something out on Microsoft’s crappy little program? Or maybe a horse who has been doused by two or more buckets of opposing colors so that his body is a riot of color? Curiously enough, if you answered the third one, you’re not too far off.
Paints are a mix of white (always white) and some other color. They can come in black, brown, bay (sort of brown), chestnut, copper and sorrel (sort of reddish, but not quite as red as copper). Additionally, paints have terms for the pattern of markings on their bodies, since, because the colors are set by the horse’s genes, they’re entirely random between one horse to the next. There’s Tobiano, Overo, Frame, Sabino, Splashed White and Tovero. It’d take too much time to explain all that here, but suffice it to say that the Paint is a horse of a different color!
Based on genetic lines of the American Quarterhorse and the Thoroughbred, the Paint typically looks most often like a Thoroughbred in how it’s put together. Speaking of putting horses together, Douglas captures the wild and majestic Paint horse with their durable yet oh so soft and snuggly Paint plushie who goes by the name Natches. At 27 inches long, he makes a huge impression. Doubling as a pillow or a snuggle buddy, he absolutely one of the best additions to any horse lover’s collection. We can bet on that.
