Squawk! Will you look at that? It’s a vulture!
Despite their unsettling and odd appearance, both New World and Old World vultures are highly useful creatures. What’s the difference between New and Old World birds? New World vultures live in North America while Old World birds live in Europe, Africa and Asia.
How could such a funky-looking bird be of use to nature, let alone us, you might ask? Well, we’ll tell you. Both types of birds feast on dead things. We know it sounds yucky, but they actually do us a favor. As scavengers, they’re especially adapted to not only survive but to thrive amongst the creepy crawlies of the animal kingdom and stave off the bacteria and other nasties that call the recently deceased home. Their super caustic stomach acid not only helps them digest their food (“Now that’s a meal only a vulture could love!”), but it can double as a defensive weapon when the bird feels threatened. Projectile Weapons FTW!
Their bald heads and necks may look weird, but the lack of feathers keeps them clean. Now, let’s think about this for a bit. If ‘you’ frequently went around, sticking your face into rotting animals, you’d want to keep your head clean too, right? You would probably sport a chrome dome as well. The lack of feathers probably also helps the vulture keep his cool. And Hansa has captured all this macabre awesome with its adherence to lifelike imagery and top notch quality that means their plush animals are both 100% safe and durable, too.
