Douglas brings Arthur to life. No, we aren’t talking Dudley Moore’s lovable, alcoholic drunk billionaire playboy (though it might be interesting to see a plushie version of him, especially if the snarky yet well-meaning Hobson came with). No, what we have here is one of Mother Nature’s more interesting creations – the armadillo, whose name just happens to be Arthur. At 10 inches long, this stuffed armadillo may not be as big as the real thing (though there is one species that averages only 5-6 inches in length), but he’s got every bit as much charm as you could want from a quality stuffed plush toy.
Armadillos are pretty much like walking tanks. They may not have the durability or weaponry of the armored (or thyreophoran) dinosaurs of ages past, like the ankylosaurus, but in this modern world, where predators don’t average tens of feet high with foot long claws and teeth, not so much weighty armor is needed. But that doesn’t mean the armadillo isn’t weighty. In fact, to keep from drowning when crossing narrow streams and rivers, the armadillo has to inflate his stomach and intestines to help him float. Usually, when they are scared, armadillos will run into a nearby thorny bush, since most predators won’t try to brave the painful growth to get at him. Douglas brings that wit and the armadillo’s unique presentation to life with their 10 inch plushie. With his leather banded shell, black beady eyes, and cuddly soft body, he just screams “Take me, I’m yours!” So what are you waiting for?
