For those of you who love snakes (this excludes certain archaeologists, naturally), the Rhino Viper is one of Africa’s most fascinating species of legless reptile. Granted, our tough-as-nails globe-trotting Nazi-hater never visited sub-Saharan Africa, so he would’ve missed this scaly guy entirely. So much the better for him, eh?
The same goes for you, too! That’s because Wild Republic captures the unique look of the Rhino Viper as only they can. These venomous snakes live in the jungles of West, Central and South Africa and have two prominent “horns” on their head, hence the name. No one knows quite what purpose the horns serve other than to give the snake a distinct look. It also has the loudest hiss of African snakes, sounding almost like a shriek – though it doesn’t need to do this or give any other warning for that matter, before striking. Despite its vibrant colors, it blends in really well to its dense jungle surroundings on the forest floor. In other words, watch your step!
Another cool thing about the Rhino Viper is that its tail is somewhat prehensile, meaning it can move in ways that other snakes only dream about. It’s also a pretty good swimmer too. Our tip? If you ever see a real one, don’t grab it by the tail – it’ll ruin your day but quick! Just do yourself a favor and take this snuggly guy home instead. He’s safe as houses and makes a wonderful addition to any plush collection.
