If this little stuffed chicken looks a little odd, that’s because she’s not from around these parts. Sanders and Ronald never got their clutches on her, for which we can all be grateful.
She’s actually called an Araucana, and hails from South America – Chile to be exact. This ‘rumpless’ bird is believed to have first been bred by the Araucanian Indians of Chile, hence its name. And what differentiates her from one of the chickens you’re probably more familiar with is that she has feather tufts on the sides of her head by her ears and she has no tail. That’s actually what ‘rumpless’ means. Sometimes you’ll have domestic cats sans their tails and/or the last vertebrae. They’re called rumpless, or ‘rumpies’, too.
As for the little birdie, she lays blue eggs, unlike a standard chicken’s brown eggs, (they actually bleach eggs to make them white in the store, did you know that?) Some other distinguishing marks are the reduced size or outright absence of a wattle (the little red thing on American chickens), and the addition of a ‘beard’ of feathers on some birds. For all those differences, Hansa brings this plush little lady to life in their own unique way. With the softest materials and highest quality construction, she’s a true delight for lovers of obscure birds. Her legs and feet are also posable, so you can put her in any position you want when settling her in to roost.
