In the animal kingdom, specifically where it relates to arachnids like spiders and scorpions, often, the smaller the animal is, the more potent its venom, whether or not it is dangerous to humans. Working off that base, Sonny and Co.’s male Black Widow spider must be the most harmless pushover on the planet.
In reality, male Black Widow spiders aren’t dangerous to humans. In fact, many species of female black widow will eat the male after they do the nasty, hence the name ‘widow’. Talk about a bum deal. Not only are male widow spiders smaller, their venom is less potent, and sometimes they ‘die’ after assuring the continuation of the species. Sheesh. Still, that doesn’t account for the fact that humans tend to fear the things they don’t understand. Or they tend to cling to weird suppositions about stuff that just aren’t true. Take for example the tarantula – he’s big and hairy and scary-looking. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly. (We figure the fly doesn’t feel any pain after the tarantula gets its fangs into it, so technically we haven’t mislead you).
As for this male Widow, he’s ginormous – 11 inches long and a full 20 inches wide with eight legs stretched out fully. What he lacks in realism (male widows are usually brown or black, but the marking on their belly, if they have one, is yellow or white, rather than red). If you can look past that, this plushie arachnid is a real treat and is as cuddly as the real thing is not. Besides all that, he’s so big as to be comical. How can you be scared of that? If you still think he is just a bit to terrifying, just stick your hand in this big fella and have him tell jokes. Yes, he is also a hand puppet so you can make him as lovable as you like. Go ahead and order him…you aren’t afraid are you?
