Crocodiles and alligators are some of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. Really, they’re very similar, and yet distinct in some important ways. Both of them have survived for over 200 million years, outliving even their larger relatives, the dinosaurs. While neither species is docile (you wouldn’t want to walk up to one and try and pet it, would you?), the alligator is far more likely to run away from you than the crocodile. Crocodiles, as a general rule, are also bigger than their alligator cousins.

A lot of people get the two confused. Here are two great ways to tell them apart. Alligators tend to have a darker color to their skin, almost black in some cases, whereas crocodiles have a more olive-toned or greenish skin. These difference help in camouflage, since they’re both ambush predators who like to strike from underneath the water in which they spend a lot of their time.

No worries though! The only ambushing stuffed alligator Gotcha will be doing is straight into your heart. He’s that awesome. Gotcha just ‘loves’ people. No, not to eat. This plush stuffed animal is into cuddles, wrestling and doing anything and everything that you’re in the mood for. His schedule is wide open, as they say in the corporate world.

Another distinction between alligators and crocodiles is that alligators have a broad, U-shaped snout while crocodiles have a much narrower, V-shaped snout. This stuffed gator is no exception. He’s got a dark green body with a light green underbelly and legs. His feet are a pretty blue green color, and he has golden washer lock eyes that peer out at the world curiously. Made of 100% kid-safe materials, he’s one of Aurora’s finest critters, certainly their finest reptile.
