It’s pretty much understood and widely accepted. Dogs are awesome. But famous dogs are a thousand times cooler, simply by virtue of the fact that they are associated with some of the best or most influential people, events or popular culture icons of an era. Whether on the screen or on the page, the world of imagination is filled to brimming with canine talent. You’ve got Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Cujo and then the non-corporeal but no less memorable Underdog, Droopy, Krypto the Superdog, Scooby Doo and Ace the Bat Hound (actually a Great Dane).
Our point is that dogs have made an indellible mark on our hearts and minds, engendering both love and fear (in the case of Cujo and the Husky from The Thing). And this doesn’t even include real life heroic dogs that save lives every day, or help make someone else’s life a little easier, as a guide dog or a therapy dog. The point that we’re trying to make here is that regardless of the medium in which you find it, regardless the dog’s breed, dogs are pretty cool. As for this one, he’s the Portuguese Water Dog, and he herds fish. You heard right. Some dogs herd sheep or cows or llamas. With his curly coat that doesn’t shed and his webbed paws, he makes a fantastic swimmer and he’s keen to help his master haul in the day’s catch. This particular PWD is made by Kosen in Germany, with a flawless attention to detail that you won’t find in most other places. He also seems to be modeled after the Obama’s own dog, Bo, who is himself a Portuguese Water Dog. So there’s that. See? Epic dog.
