If you’ve ever seen the acclaimed anime (Japanese animation) Cowboy Bebop, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi will be well known to you. Ein (the dog in question from the show) may not be a tri-color Corgi, but he’s every bit as memorable as the real thing. “Why’s that?” you ask. Well, you see, he’s a special dog.
In the late 21st century setting of the show, Ein is what is known as a ‘data dog’. He was augmented in a lab by scientists of the time to be hyper intelligent and do things (like access a computer or hack into systems) that no real dog could. If all that seems silly, it really makes sense in the context of the show. The brain child of Shinichir? Watanabe, Bebop’s popularity has endured long after many other stars have faded. The show was introduced in 1998, and has earned much acclaim not only in its native Japan, but over in the States as well. The aforementioned Ein because a member of the crew of the eponymous ship, Bebop, though only one person really seems aware of his extraordinary abilities. Kirby over there may not have Ein’s ability to communicate with other animals or hack an Internet site, but he’s every bit as lovable as Ein, and by extension, the real thing.
If you’ve seen the fox-like Corgis with tails, you might be confused by Kirby. The toy makers didn’t screw up. There are two different breeds of Corgi – you’ve got the Pembroke (Kirby) and the Cardigan. It’s the Cardigan who has the bush, fox-like tail. Douglas captures the memorable charm of the Corgi with their 13-inch long plush guy, with his white, black and tan coat and bright expressive eyes. Why not take him home today?
